Zion’s UCC “Liberty Bell” Church – Annual reading of the Declaration of Independence

1 July 2018 @ 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Free

The annual reading of the Declaration of Independence in Allentown, held at historic Zion’s “Liberty Bell” UCC on Sunday July 1st at the 10:45 am service of worship, features some two dozen volunteer participants who reenact the protests of the Colonists by reading sections of the Declaration, punctuated by the ringing of “Allentown’s Liberty Bell.” Allentown’s bell, which originally hung in the church tower and tolled to gather people for the reading of the Declaration on July 8, 1776, is rung during the ceremony. This bell is the model for the bell dropped on New Year’s Eve at Center Square, and it was seen throughout the city during Allentown’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Zion’s church is located at 620 W Hamilton Street in downtown Allentown. The public is invited. A free-will offering is received. For more information, you can contact the Administrative Secretary at: (610)435-5061
