Hundreds to Gather for 28th Annual
Pocono Prayer Breakfast

Kalahari Resorts & Conventions on Tuesday, October 3, 2023

The 28th Annual Pocono Prayer Breakfast (formally known as the Pocono Leadership Prayer Breakfast) will be held at 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions (250 Kalahari Blvd, Pocono Manor, PA.) Doors to the Kalahari Event/Conference Center open at 6:15 a.m. Breakfast buffet is available from 6:15-7:15 a.m. The formal part of the program starts at 7:15 a.m. and concludes by 8:30 a.m. Afterward, there will be a short social that runs through 9:00 a.m. The Stroudsburg High School band opens the program every year with a military tribute to honor our veterans, and this year, they will feature students from Faith Christian School who will sing during the breakfast hour and before the Prelude. A special performance of “Is He Worthy” will be sung by the students during the program.

The Pocono Prayer Breakfast was started by Jack Muehlhan. About 30 years ago, when Jack was having lunch at Molly’s on Main Street in Stroudsburg, someone gave him a VHS tape of the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast that took place in Texas. Jack was inspired to start a Pocono-based Prayer Breakfast to unite the community. He received advice from a friend that set the direction for the event – Keep it simple and upscale. So, he approached the owner of the Stroudsmoor and asked him to host the event. They were hesitant and unsure if enough people would attend, but they agreed. Everyone was thrilled when 240 people showed up for the first event. Jack’s straightforward approach, drive, and dedication continued to make the event a success each year. And he always kept the event on track so it wrapped up on time for the work community to clock in at 9:00 a.m. He doesn’t take all the credit, however. “It was a modern-day miracle – I give the Lord all the credit,” he said.

“We are excited to continue this rich annual tradition as we unite over our shared faith in God, love for our Country, and the message of hope and salvation in Jesus Christ”

– Charlie Trapasso
After 26 years, Jack determined it was time to hand the reins to someone else. Eventually, Charlie Trapasso stepped up to fill the role. Charlie and her husband, Vincent, are very involved in the community, and Charlie was thrilled and honored to take the helm.

“For 27 years, the Pocono Prayer Breakfast has brought over 700 community and business leaders who join together to hear a message of hope and pray for our government, businesses, healthcare, education, faith communities, residents, and families,” said Charlie Trapasso, Director. “It is truly encouraging to see countless people of all faiths and political backgrounds come together early in the morning to seek the blessings of God for our Pocono Mountain community, country, and nation.” The Breakfast (always held on the first Tuesday of October) is a non-profit event that highlights what unites us as Americans, with a focus on God and Country. Past leaders of our Nation have turned to Almighty God for strength and guidance. Through the inspiration of this gathering, those in attendance pray for our nation and hear a message of hope. Many high-profile speakers have shared their personal stories and powerful, life-transforming testimony at the Pocono Prayer Breakfast throughout the year.

This year they are pleased to welcome Major General Julie Bentz (retired) as the featured speaker. Major General Bentz retired from the U.S. Army after a successful 33-year career. She served on the Executive Office of the President National Security Council for three consecutive administrations as Senior Advisor for Emerging Technologies, Deputy Senior Director for Weapons of Mass Destruction, Director of Strategic Capabilities, Director of Nuclear Defense Policy, Deputy Director of the Joint Improvised Explosives Device Defeat Organization and Vice Director of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. She holds a M.S. in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University, a Ph.D., and a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Missouri. Major Bentz will share her powerful testimony of how her faith has shaped her personal life, sustained her through loss, and influenced her immense professional success.
