Celebrate March is Red Cross Month at the Lehigh Valley Mall
[Bethlehem, PA} March 4, 2013 — Since 1943, every president, including President Obama, has designated March as Red Cross Month. In honor of Red Cross Month, the Lehigh Valley Mall will host the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley for a Community Event on Saturday, March 30th, from 11:00am-4:00pm.
Event highlights will include a mobile blood drive, a raffle, children activities including an opportunity to meet mascot Scrubby Bear, and other opportunities to learn about the many programs and services offered by the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
“Red Cross Month is a great time for people to become part of the Red Cross and there are many different ways to do it,” Polly Patterson, Red Cross Regional Executive said. “They can develop a preparedness plan for their household, become a Red Cross volunteer, give blood, or take a Red Cross class, just to name a few. We are so grateful to the Lehigh Valley Mall for shining a spotlight on the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley not just on March 30th, but throughout the entire month”
Last year, the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley, responded to 98 disaster incidents and
provided assistance to 501 individuals and 140 families who experienced disasters from house fires to hurricanes; trained nearly 9,000 individuals in lifesaving skills including First Aid, CPR, AED, Babysitter Training, and more; transmitted emergency communications to 274 service men & women; presented 548 deployment briefings to military members and their families and collected over 1,000 units of lifesaving
blood – one unit of blood can help save the lives of up to three people.
The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on donations of time, money and blood to do its work. An average of 91 cents of every dollar given to the Red Cross is invested in helping people in need.
About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
